Keep up to date with V G Allen's latest studio creations, techniques and art experiments

Welcome to my studio, where I like to transform found objects from diverse landscapes into unique, semi-abstract elemental panoramas.
My canvases, often crafted with mixed media techniques, harness the rich textures of nature and the earthiness of the North Yorkshire landscape.
Have a look through my gallery and discover the beauty of our northern coastline.

Walking amongst the heather, heightens the senses and over all feeling of well being. I aim to evoke the smells, the sounds, as I paint I feel the coarse, yet soft caress of the heather.

In this painting I used impasto to build up layers of thicker paint and sgraffito to scratch into the paint surface, in order to provide textural interest and depth.

Painting Open Air on Location
Over the summer months I like to set up camp in nature and paint in the open air. Taking supplies like a folding seat and a collapsible easel help me to create my home away from home so to speak. It's also a nice way to get talking to people that are out and about walking their dogs etc and stop to admire the painting in progress. The photos here are by a lakeside in France, where I was capturing dappled light and reflections on water.
